Ground, Honed & Polished Concrete
The newest addition to our list of activities is polishing concrete. We're not the first in this business, nor will we be the last, but we came at this process differently than most. We were brought into the design phase of the remodeling of a 70's era office building in Austin. Over the decades, it had gone through many types of floor covering. The architects and owners were adamant about wanting stained concrete throughout the building. We investigated overlaying the entire area (about 6000 s.f.). The first hurdle there was to remove the multiple layers of glues, mastics and remaining vinyl from previous floor coverings. From a cost analysis, we determined that rather than overlay after cleaning, it would be less expensive to invest in a single piece of equipment that would remove the old stuff, and polish out the newly exposed concrete. The concrete required substantial patching in areas, unfortunately quite a bit in the entry/foyer. But after staining and final diamond polishing, everyone was very pleased with the outcome.
