This is a photo from a guest clinic conducted by Sue DeLaurentis of Red Horse Ranch.
Sue brought Sheryl Crow's horse, Lady, to show off for us.
The Dripping Springs 4H Horse Project is a very
unique and very active part of
the
Dripping Springs 4H Club. We meet every week (not just once a month) and
our "project animal" usually survives the year. Whereas the goal of most
groups is to bring your animal to market level, ours is to train the animal to
perform various skills at increasingly more difficult levels over a series of
years.
With
the money made at out annual fundraiser (Painted Pony Playday) we are able to
rent a wonderful covered arena at the Polo Club for our weekly meetings.
This facility ensures that training and education continues weekly, rain or
shine. We are able to bring in professionals from various areas of the
equine profession. Veterinarians, feed producers, trainers and judges have
all
spent time educating our members about horses. Our kids have gotten to
participate in clinics, have done back stage tours of Texas A&M's College of
Veterinary Medicine and Austin Police Department's Mounted Patrol training
facility, and have assisted in local horse shows. The adult leaders are
very active and share a love of young people and horses.
We
welcome your participation in our project whether you have a horse or not.
We do not provide horses for those of you who don't have one. We do,
however, try to create learning situations for everyone, mounted or not.
If you are considering purchasing a horse, I can't think of a better thing to do
than to spend a couple of months coming to our meetings and asking lots of
questions. Everyone here has one goal, to facilitate the unique bond that
occurs between a good horse and a young rider.
You can contact us by sending an e-mail to Horse Project Leader or just drop by the Polo Club covered arena at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evenings.
Some photos from our April 17th meeting where we did a trick horse training demonstration led by Miss Donna (Moore). Lots of participation and a lot of happy horses!
